Co-operation with Demola

We started co-operation with Demola (http://www.demola.fi) by offering
them project idea, which can be implemented by a team of students from
universities in Tampere. The idea as whole can be seen here:
http://workspace.demola.fi/projects/project-121-mobile-learning-environment-h...

Hopefully we can start good co-operation and also help local students to
get interesting work with modern technologies such as Android, iOS and
Django.

Eat.fi application for Android beta released!

We just release our first official Android application that is a Android
client for Finnish restaurant service Eat.fi. This is beta version and
improvement ideas are very welcome!

In the next releases we will improve graphics and add basic
functionality such as searching and filtering of results. Now, just grab
your barcode reader and install this!

Will work on 2.1 and 2.2 devices, probably the next version will be
available for Android 1.6 too.

Big thanks to Eat.fi founder Tina Aspiala for great support and letting
us use some of official Eat.fi graphics and APIs.

Hope you all enjoy this! App is available on Android market. You also can get it by shooting this 2d barcode with barcode scanning app.

Haltu.com

Finally we got our hands on haltu.com domain and now it redirects to haltu.fi, great! Haltu.com was previously owned by a Finnish music band from some where near Jyväskylä(?) and they very generously let us have the domain. Big thanks to you guys!

I just pushed new update for our shiny webpage. We added more detailed
information about the technologies and expertise within Haltu. English
version is still under development, sorry for that.

In co-operation with a local design and internet house Mainostoimisto
Värikäs Oy we implemented simple and free webservice on top of Google
Appengine and Django (appengine_django). It took some time to understand
and learn the limitations of selected environment but now it's up and
running!

About the service itself then.. We have listed restaurants that will
discount their prices according to new VAT (22%->13%) starting from
1.7.2010. The idea of the service is to give possibility to our users to
add restaurants they know that will or will NOT discount prices. So feel
free to browse our database and add new restaurants you know for sure.
Currently - to be honest - moderation is disabled, so remember to behave
or we have to turn it on.

Graphics design: Mainostoimisto Värikäs Oy, http://www.varikas.fi
Implementation (Google Appengine + Django): Haltu Oy, http://www.haltu.fi

Django project skeleton

The project skeleton is good for developing eggs containing individual and re-usable Django apps.

The skeleton is created based on the instructions in http://jacobian.org/writing/django-apps-with-buildout/

The difference is that now it is possible to develop several apps in a single project. And of course everything is controlled by buildout.

More detailed information about the project skeleton can be found in http://bitbucket.org/derega/django-buildout-skeleton

Moving to new office

Only two months have gone and now we're moving to bigger office. Not
just a some little corner office - now we will have 6 times more space
than before. And the address remains almost the same. This is
exciting. I'm thrilled. I believe this gives as much more potential and
possibilities to make things happen as we have been planning. The first real
day at the new office will be 10th of June (teh internets becomes
available!). Maybe we'll share some pics before that.

This is also my first blog entry. Soon, I hope, we will be posting more
about our daily business and tech stuff - anything that we see worth
sharing. We would also appreciate any feedback and comments, even those
little ones.
